GARGILESSE

Gargilesse, “un des pluses beaux villages de France”, is a beautiful medieval village nestled around the Castle of the Seigneurs de Gargilesse, once a military fortress, now a romantic little castle that dreamily looks out over the green valley.

The village is named after the little river Gargilesse.

You walk through medieval streets, on your way to the Romanesque church to see the touchingly beautiful frescoes from the 13th century, not to mention the magnificent capitals with which the pillars are decorated: the Bible as a comic carved in limestone.

You enjoy the square in front of the castle with a beautiful view of the sheltered valley where the Gargilesse is always in a hurry to the Creuse.

You take a drink on the terrace of Hôtel des Artistes, which opened its doors for the first time in 1820.

You revel in peace and silence.
